Day One
Individual
arrival. Welcome Cocktail and Briefing
Tonight
we will meet at one of Hong Kong’s beautiful old colonial
buildings for welcome cocktails, a chance to meet your walking
partners and a briefing on the excursions we will be taking.
Day Two
The
Dragon’s Back, Hong Kong Island
We
will take a coach ride along the Hong Kong Island Eastern
Corridor until we reach the south side of the island. A short
climb up to a ridge top path – the spine of the Dragon
- taking in the glorious views of the south side of Hong Kong
Island. Upon climbing down from the Dragon, the path will
take us along a foliage-covered track until we begin our descent
down to “Big Wave Bay”. From here we’ll
take a short ride to Shek O, where we will enjoy an al fresco
Asian style meal. We will bus part of the way back, and then
disembark and take a tram journey back in to the centre of
town.
Difficulty
– Moderate
Time - This whole excursion will take up to 7 hours
Day Three
Sai
Kung Country Park, New Territories
A coach will take us up to Sai Kung Country Park in the New
Territories of Hong Kong. We will take a coastal route and
stop at an old local village on the way. Travelling through
the country park, we will begin the walk along a pleasant
coastal-view path that will lead us to the foot of Sharp Peak.
The adventurous, accustomed hikers can choose whether they
climb to the top or carry on to the beach. The hike to the
top of the peak is very strenuous, but the views of the surrounding
bays, ocean and hills are tremendous and encourage the ascent.
All walkers will end up at the beach for a picnic. Our reward at the end of a robust day is a sumptuous Chinese dinner at an ocean view seaside restaurant in the nearby town of Sai Kung.
Difficulty
– main walk is moderately challenging. There are some
steep inclines included.
Addition of Sharp Peak – this is a very strenuous hike.
It includes some climbing using hands where the incline is
steep.
Not including Sharp Peak – bring a swimsuit and enjoy
a swim in the ocean or a snooze on the beach.
Time - This excursion will take the whole day - up
to 10 hours.
Day Four
Lantau
Peak, The Island of Lantau
Today
we will head out to one of Hong Kong’s outlying islands
– the island of Lantau (which means “Big Island
Mountain” in Chinese). Lantau is Hong Kong’s largest
island and we will partly climb one of the two largest hills
on the island - Lantau Peak. The day will include a ferry
ride through the harbour, past the container port and suspension
bridge. A bus ride will take us up to the Po Lin Monastery
for a vegetarian lunch and a viewing of the Big Buddha –
the world’s largest sitting outdoor Buddha – before
heading off to climb the Peak. Upon our descent we can have
an excellent aerial view of Chep Lap Kok Airport. We will
return to Hong Kong Island via ferry.
Difficulty – fairly challenging with some steeps
steps on part of the ascent and a ridge top path at the top,
so you will need a reasonable head for heights.
Time -This is a whole days trip - up to 8
hours.
*Note:
All timings are approximate and will depend on the group and
local conditions. The difficulty factor does, of course, depend
on your own level of fitness.
